OKX, one of the largest crypto exchanges by trading volume, has launched OKX Racer, a new mini-app game on Telegram.
This free casual game is about the ability of the user to forecast the Bitcoin price fluctuation for a five-second time interval. OKX is the first large centralized exchange to launch a Telegram mini-app, thereby entering a segment where Telegram with its 900 million users has become popularized by tap-to-earn games.
Game Mechanics and Player Rewards
OKX Racer is simple with a more direct approach that makes users guess whether or not Bitcoin will moon or doom within the next five seconds. Per the statement that was provided to The Block the game enables players to earn points for the correct guesses and multipliers are given to successive wins. Further, players gain referral points and can redeem their points to enhance their gaming utility.
Speaking on the launch, Jason Lau, the Chief Innovation Officer of OKX noted, “Telegram’s mini-app platform is soon becoming the Crypto community’s must-go place. At OKX, We believe in easy to use, interoperable and open platforms that fosters communities, encourage people to get involved and most importantly to have fun. OKX Racer, our first attempt at the Telegram Mini-Apps, we hope it will be well received by
Trend in Tap-to-Earn Games on Telegram
The launch of OKX Racer aligns with a growing trend of tap-to-earn games on Telegram, such as Hamster Kombat, Notcoin, and Yescoin. These games allow users to potentially earn cryptocurrency via the TON blockchain. While OKX did not specify an incentive model for OKX Racer, the general expectation for such games is the possibility of airdrops to points holders for game-related tokens launched on TON. For instance, Notcoin airdropped over 80 billion TON-based tokens to its players in May.
Telegram CEO Pavel Durov recently announced plans to expand the platform’s blockchain initiatives. These plans include the introduction of a mini app store and an in-app browser with web3 support.
In a recent post on his Telegram channel, Durov stated, “2024 will go down in history as the year when hundreds of millions of people became familiar with blockchain. We’re proud that Telegram is at the epicenter of this societal transformation.”
Previous Bitcoin Price Movement Games
OKX Racer is not the first game to center around Bitcoin’s price movements. The Solana-based derivatives betting platform Hxro introduced a similar game in 2019, where players could bet on whether Bitcoin’s price would rise or fall over a five-minute interval. This similarity indicates a continued interest in gamified trading experiences within the crypto community.
