the world’s largest exchange Binance will donate $100 worth of BNB to its users in areas affected by the recent earthquake in Turkey, the company announced Tuesday following the recent tragic event in the country that claimed the lives and properties of its residents.
The philanthropic gesture of Binance will reach residents of the country in the region it identified where the earthquake had a “significant impact.” The areas include Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, Diyarbakır, Adana, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Adıyaman, Malatya, and Hatay.
Binance will Use Proof of Address for Identification.
Binance has stated that it will use the Proof of Address (POA) form filled out before February 6 to identify residents of the affected areas. Noting the limitations of the POA, Binance insists it is the best option it has at its disposal to identify the affected residents.
The donation, estimated to be around $5 million (approximately 94 million Turkish Lira), intends to provide for the essential needs of the affected residents of the country. Binance Charity has also launched a public donation address for people who wish to donate to this course.
“The recent earthquakes in Turkey have had a devastating impact on so many people and communities. We hope that our efforts will bring some relief to those affected. We are also calling on our industry peers to once again come together to offer support in these times of crises”, Binance CEO, CZ, said.
Binance has made similar donations and calls in the past. It also called for support for Ukraine when Russia invaded it, donating over $2.5 million to support Ukrainian children during the war.
Tron CEO Justin Sun Joins the Donation
The CEO and founder of Tron, Justin Sun, has joined in the donation to residents of Turkey affected by the earthquake. Sun tweeted just hours after the Binance announcement that it will support the contributions to the affected residents with 1 million TRX.
The tweet by Sun was in response to the Paribu Exchange posting a public address for donations to affected Turkish residents.
“Paribu is one of the most respected local cryptocurrency exchanges in Turkey, and I support donation campaigns for the earthquake in Turkey,” Sun tweeted.
