Pro-crypto lawyer John Deaton has officially begun a campaign to overthrow Elizabeth Warren for the Massachusetts senate seat.
It is worth noting that Senator Warren, who has been in office since 2013, is one of the loudest critics of cryptocurrency. In 2022, she introduced a bipartisan bill aimed at combating crypto money laundering through various restrictions such as requiring digital asset ATM operators to submit the physical locations of their kiosks, prohibiting banks and other financial institutions from using crypto mixers or transacting with crypto assets that have used the mixers.
Additionally, following the approval of the Spot Bitcoin ETFs, she said that the agency was wrong on the law and the policy concerning the products.
Denton Campaigns against Senator Warren
Deaton moved to Massachusetts last month to take on Warren, a member of the democratic party. In his campaign video, Denton disclosed his intention to take on Senator Warren for a seat in this year’s election. He alleged that Warren had forgotten the masses who elected her, he said:
“She promised to be a champion for those in need, instead she gives lectures, plays politics, and gets nothing done for Massachusetts”.
With references to his humble beginning, he claimed he would be different because he understands the struggles of life having been raised in poverty.
Deaton’s Stance on Cryptocurrencies
Meanwhile, Deaton as a prominent crypto advocate has always been vocal concerning the United States government’s approach towards crypto oversight in a series of blog posts. He has criticized the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Gary Gensler for his approach to investor protection. He even condemned Elizabeth Warren for the failure to engage in oversight of the agency.
Additionally, Deaton is the founder and host of CryptoLaw, which according to its website is a “clearing house of information, news and analysis on key US legal and regulatory developments for digital asset holders.”
He also played a part in the SEC versus Ripple lawsuit which began in December 2020. He advocated for XRP investors, arguing that their interests were not being represented in the case.
Although he made no mention of cryptocurrencies in his campaign video, Deaton brands himself as someone who will fight for what is right and will never give up because he has no fear.
